traffic and bill evans with the exclusive forecast. >> i found myself doing the same thing this morning. i looked down, what is the weather for saturday. we are back to work and back to school today. it will be a very hot day. 77 degrees right now. it may drop another degree or two but the humidity is up there to go with it. 70 kingston and poughkeepsie. armonk to new city in rockland county, 67 to 64 digest. it's warm -- degrees. it's warm in the overnight hours. today record high temperature territory. 93 is the record on this date in 1919. we could break a 100-year-old record. the real feel is 95 to 100. kids back at school today, work and making the commute, be careful of the heat and humidity. >> i was in the port authority bus terminal and totally lost. they changed the gates. funny you bring that up.
we talked about it for a bit and we will have more information about that. yes, there are gate changes with new jersey transit bussed. we have new jersey transit trains, the lines are on time. long island railroad, metro north fine. not good here at sawmill closed between wear run brook and croton. that is because of an accident ken, over to you. we have breaking news out of eastern turkey. a roadside bomb killed at least 12 police officers. the attack comes between turkey and kurdish rebels. 16 kurdish soldiers were killed in a similar bombing sunday. the bombing came hours after 53 turkish warplanes carried out attacks on occurred bases in iraq. a developing story out of queens. a deadly motorcycle accident
kills a woman after she was truck by two vehicles. one of the drivers stayed on the scene but the other took off. kala rama is live in lindenwood with the details. >> reporter: we learned the name of the victim, shay dan eversley of brooklyn. she just accepted a ride on the back of the motorcycle moments before she was killed. this is around 10:30 last night. police say the 28-year-old motorcycle driver was heading westbound, lost control and hit a divider. she was on the back and thrown to the pavement. while she was injured, she was hit by what police describe as a white older model minivan. that minivan did not stop. moments later, a second minivan ran over the victim but stopped. so far no charges have been filed. loved ones of the victim rushed to the parkway looking on in disbelief.
there may be witnesses to the crash. you can see backed up traffic on the belt parkway. so, police are asking for your help. if you know anything or on the parkway and saw any of this, they are asking for you to call. live in queens, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kala, thank you. a commuter as heart for those of you heading to the port authority this morning. prepare for chaos as dozens of bus routes are changed as part of an effort to reduce delays. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live at the port authority bus terminal with what you can expect. >> reporter: it will be crazy today, especially when it comes time for everyone to come home later this evening. the port authority has been reminding riders that this day would come to help them avoid the frustration from the new gate changes. the majority of the riders will be affected.
the majority ride new jersey transit buses or coach usa. now, this is the part where you should listen closely. starting today, all of new jersey transit bussed will arrive or depart from the third floor. coach usa buses are moving to the 4th floor. now, port authority officials say these changes are all about reducing congestion. back live outside the terminal here, there will be extra staff on hand to help make sure those riders will find their appropriate gates. this morning it won't be so bad but with all the folks that arrive this morning and have to go home this evening, that's when we expect to see the frustration and confusion that the port authority officials have been talking about. dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. new this morning, at least six firefighters are injured battling a late night fire in a yonkers apartment building. all of the tenants in the palisades avenue building got out safely but there was heavy smoke.
five people have been left homeless. the cause of the fire is under investigation. police still looking for the gang members who were trading shots in brooklyn shooting and aide to governor cuomo in the head a block from the west indian day parade. carey gabay has undergone surgery and is in critical condition. he is a harvard educated lawyer who went from city housing developments to the governor's office. his best friend spoke news. he said they ran and ducked behind parked cars when the shooting erupted yesterday morning. >> i heard the first shot then a series of 19 shots after that. just repeated, pow, pow, pow. like six of us waiting down waiting for this to end. when it ended, like five, six seconds we got up and someone said someone shot and i looked around and it was carry.
>> police say it appears that he was an inventory tended target of the gang shooting and he is on -- an unintended target of the gang shooting and he is on life support. >> thousands did enjoy a safe indian day parade. families in the sky diving community are rallying around one of their own. she was in free-fall when she diver. she was knocked out and landed parachute did deploy. she is very lucky to be alive. >> given the fact this is a sky diving injury we were concerned about the injuries. she had serious injuries but none were life threatening. >> she suffered head and spine injuries that did require
surgery. remarkably, doctors expect her to make a full recovery. former mayor rudy giuliani will testify at a congressional homeland security hearing being held at the 9/11 museum and memorial in manhattan. police commissioner william bratton will testify along with fire commissioner and a representative of the 9/11 families association. the committee is assessing the country's readiness to confront president spread of terrorism. also happening today, pope francis will announce reforms to marriage a nullment procedures. right now a tribunal must find that there was a defect. catholics complain. without anniversary nullment, divorced catholics cannot remarry. congress returns from the
summer recess with a hefty list of unfinished business. they have ten days to make sure that the government stays open. 12 annual spending bills that fund the government are in limbo over several disputes from the confederate flag to defense budgets. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans with your accuweather forecast. >> all right. good morning, everybody. we take a look from the camera on the roof to midtown manhattan. you can see on the beautiful circle 7, 77 degrees in central park. a day of sunshine today. a hot day. record heat type day. normally we should be in the mid to low 60s. it's september, the end of summer. but summer is going out kicking and screaming. hot air is out to chicago. that slides east ward the next two days.
by noon today, 88 degrees. 90 this afternoon to 93. and we are going to have a hot day today with real feels of 95 to 100. i say go to port authority and stay in port authority. >> you will know where the gate change is. >> it has air-conditioning. >> true. >> let's go to the maps. we will talk about what is happening at port authority today involving new jersey transit buses and coach usa bus. those gate changes are in effect today. dray clark is on the scene. new jersey transit trains are fine. long island railroad, metro north on or close to schedule. sawmill river parkway northbound, roar brook to croton that is -- roaring brook avenue to croton. if you are going on to the b.q.e. northeast, the ramp to the brooklyn bridge is closed down. in addition to that, the brooklyn bridge is closed until 6:00 a.m. that, of course, is because of overnight construction.
not taking a delay as you travel up the b.q.e. at this point. heading through long branch, you will find a closure on 71. it's closed down between locus and cedar. that is because of an accident. a downed pole. george washington bridge has minor delays. let's took a look at a picture of the george washington bridge. i can show you it's doing well as you move into the city, that is traffic left to right. street cleaning rules are back in effect today. ken and lori, over to you. >> thank you. still ahead on "eyewitness news this morning," a young boy desperately searching for his lost dog finds it in a backyard well. wait until you hear what happened to the boy when he tried to pull the boy to safety. >> more new video. see how criminals pulled off a smash and grab that left this north carolina gunshop in
cheers in the night when a boy and his dog were pulled from a forgotten backyard well in mississippi. the boy's dog was missing for several days. the boy heard the dog, walked over to the hole and vanished. when first responders arrived, they found the hole and that began the three our struggle to raise the boy from 23 feet down. >> i can't say enough about what everybody did to get this little boy out of the well safe. >> the firefighters say they now have to come up with pizza. yeah, fire truck rides and all kinds of stuff because they promised the little boy a whole lot while he was trapped. the boy -- the dog was rescued as well.
they didn't promise the dog anything. >> they just said come on up. some brazen crooks used a car to break into a gunshop. it happened in caldwell county, north carolina. three men entered the store, and took assault style hand guns. they backed the car through the front door of the shop. officials have not released a description of the thieves. a car dealer is reeling after thieves drove off with six cars. surveillance videos showing them at a dealership in florida smashing windows to get to lock boxes. once they got the key, they drove off the lot. ten other cars they tried to steal were damaged. meteorologist bill evans joins us with the forecast. >> the kid that fell in the well in mississippi, in lincoln county, the kid is a genius.
>> to get all that stuff. >> rides, the kid has a pony now. and he's fine. >> meridian. >> south of where i grew up. we are looking at the east river, fdr, chrysler building and looking at the empire state building to one world trade. that means we have gorgeous weather with clear skies. asbury park. we were looking at this yesterday. it was covered with folks up and down the beach here. if you have the day off, it will be another great beach day. a land breeze coming this way. temperature is 77. humidity is dry at 62%. the winds go a little more southerly to a southwest wind. the right is out of the west. that will pick up the humidity a little more today with the temperature. normal high of 78 this time of year. looking at temperatures of 93. so, 15 warmer than normal.
the sun is up around 6:30 this morning. here are the headlines. today is the hottest of the next few. potent front coming through on thursday with heavy rainfall. the front exits early on friday. trending drier and cooler as well. 72 hauppauge to north port to massapequa and down the jersey shore it's 70. these numbers are warm by 6 to 10 degrees for this hour of the day. winds are still coming up you see in spots out of the south like newark, essex and hudson and union counties. that's where we will pick up the humidities. we will have a sunny, hot and humid day. the real feel 95 to 100-6789 we are looking at 93 ties the record in 1919. tonight clear, warm and humid. overnight low is 75. tomorrow another hot day. day three of our third heat wave. a lot of numbers being thrown at you in the weather. 91 tomorrow. thunderstorms on thursday with a cold front.

because of an ongoing accident in the process of being cleared away. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect today. lori, over to you. >> heather, thank you. a labor day executive order for president obama has secured paid sick leave for 300,000 americans. the president signed the executive order on board air force one en route to a union rally in boston. once there the announcement drew a huge round of applause. paid sick leave for employees of federal contractors. workers get up to seven sick days. hundreds of thousands of refugees are rushing across european borders. more than 20,000 entered germany over the weekend with more expected to arrive. the chancellor says germany is ready to take in 800,000 people this year and urged other european countries to step up.
the surge in refugees is expected to cost germany $10 billion next year. thousands said good-bye at the funeral for murdered illinois police lieutenant joe gliniewicz. the new low give included reflections on his family and the police community. police are still looking for the three suspected killers. after a month out of sight, the american dentist that killed cecil the lion returns to work at his dental practice. in an interview, dr. walter palmer said his family received death threats which has been hard on his wife and daughter. he believes he acted legally and was stunned to find out his hunting party killed one of zimbabwe's treasured animals. four mexican officials face charges in helping el chapo
escape from prison. two are members of the mexican intelligence service who worked at the prison housing mexico's most notorious kingpin. the other were prison employees in the control room. all four are accused of helping a prisoner escape and not allowing protocol in sounding the alarm. coming up, a man completes the ultimate marathon with his son in tow running across the country for a good cause. >> the defiant county clerk behind bars for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples is demanding a get out of jail free card. that is coming up in the next
welcome back. in health alert, a simple blood test that tells how well your body is aging. researchers in london say the tests can predict when a person will die, identifies those at a high risk of dementia. the test looks for a so-called aging signature in blood cell by comparing 150 different genes. it gives no clues about slowing

still in the process of being cleared away. 78 west at the summer sit county line overturned dump truck. a debris spill involved. traveling through long branch, 71 is closed down. this is because of an accident with a downed pole and wires. it's closed both ways between locus and cedar. detours are set up. street cleaning rules are in effect. ken, over to you. >> thank you check overnight in queens -- developing overnight in queens, a woman was killed on the belt parkway near cross bay. this happened late last night kala rama is live in lindenwood with the details. >> reporter: sade eversley was on the back of the motorcycle. and the worst part here, she just accepted the ride on the back of that motorcycle and once they got on the parkway, she was killed. here is what happened. let me show you the aftermath of that accident. police say the 28-year-old

it happened late last week near grand concourse in east mount eden avenue. the suspect approached the victim as he was entering the elevator. he punched him in the head before snatching a gold chain from his neck. the suspect got away. the victim sustained a minor injury to his head. former auxiliary inspector and his wife and future son-in- law were killed in a one-car crash in upstate new york. it happened late yesterday afternoon near exit 112 on route 17 in sullivan county in the town of rock hill. 58-year-old morris of the lower east side was killed. he was a first responder on 9- 11. his daughter and two sons survived the crash. they are in stable condition. all were members of the orthodox jewish community on the lower east side. happening today, a big commuter alert for the thousands of people who go in
and out of the port authority bus terminal everyday. an effort to improve traffic congestion could lead to con fugs. eyewitness news reporter -- confusion. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live to sort it out for us. >> reporter: good morning, lori. most of the changes we were told will require riders to walk to the new gates on a different floor. more than 200,000 riders pass through the bus termnal everyday. these changes are a big deal. the majority either ride new jersey transit buses or coach usa. starting today, all new jersey transit buses will move to the third floor and coach usa are moving to the fourth floor. port authority officials say the changes are about reducing congestion especially on the bus ramps that connect the terminal to the lincoln tunnel. also it's about avoiding the two biggest bus lines being on the same floor and pretty much
competing for the same space. >> sometimes you get conflicts. we eliminate this conflict and then consolidating coach in one area. they will have better control and hopefully less conflicts and gives us the ability to more easily monitor what is going on. so s the result of this, we are hoping less crowding conditions and better reliability of everybody's trip. >> reporter: now, the port authority bus terminal is about 65 -- 65 years old and need improvement. these changes are a step in that direction. last september the port authority announced $90 million will be spent on overhauling this building, doing other improvements as well. again, we are expecting some degree of confusion and frustration. not so much this morning when everyone arrives. the real test will be when its its eye time for everyone to leave this evening as they have to board those buses, again going to new gates.

"new york times" reporting that a second review of hillary clinton's e-mails found two e- mails sent to mrs. clinton which contained highly classified information. one of the classified messages sent to her home surfer pertained to north korea's nuclear weapon program. this supports an earlier review in which the clinton campaign dismissed as bureaucratic infighting. governor cuomo is wrapping up a two-day visit to puerto rico and an island sinking under the weight of its debt. its governor calls it unpayable. the governor and officials on the island are discussing how
new york can help puerto rico dig itself out of a $72 billion hole. >> having a presence is sending a message to the island that new york wants to be involved, lend its expertise and what it can do. a lot can be exchanged in these meetings. >> puerto rico is struggling with a double digit unemployment rate escalating crime and financial mismanagement. >> eyewitness news anchor joe torres is in puerto rico covering the governor's visit. attorneys for kim davis, the kentucky clerk who refuses to sign off on same-sex marriage licenses is working to get her free from jail. mike huckabee will join a prayer rally in support of davis. she refuses to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. her attorneys filed an emergency motion yesterday to

check this morning, a fast moving wildfire has people on alert in provo canyon, utah where flames consumed about 300 full acres there as fire trucks rolled to the front lines. neighbors were doing whatever they could to protect their homes. this is the first major fire to roll through the area in nearly a decade that left a lot of fuels to burn creating a danger for crews on the front lines. >> it's hard to work in because it's tall, 20, 30 feet tall and creates a hazard for the firefighters.
>> fire crews say limited access of the area there, roads due to lack of roads that are wide enough for big equipment, fire trucks and what not, that is creating an obstacle to fighting the inferno. beautiful there. >> gorgeous. let's check in with bill. >> today a great start. back to work and school. humid side. you will feel that but not so bad as you look down the east river. 77 degrees. winds are out of the southwest. the wind out of the southwest goes a little more southerly today. that will inch up the humidity today. that's why it will feel a little more stuffy and steamy than yesterday. yesterday we hit 92. little in the way of humidity. hoe pat kong 64. 68 blairstown. 68 milford. 64 hand november and down to bridgewater 64 degrees.
these numbers are warm, teaneck, essex hudson, union county. these are 6, 7 degrees warmer for this hour of the day. in spots winds turn a little more southerly and that's why the humidity picks up. so, inland areas, away from the coast will get hot and humid today. we are looking at clear skies all the way back here to chicago and the great lakes into the ohio valley, mid- mississippi valley. this front slides eastward and gets to us thursday evening. futurecast, computer guidance shows you that. sunshine today and tomorrow. here comes the front. early on thursday, off to the west. then it slides through the area. with the heating and moisture and the front making its passage in the afternoon, downpours will be heavy. this will come after school time and the evening commute and then this is gone thursday and sets us up for a nice weekend. the heat index this afternoon, the real feel, you will see dark shades of red here through
essex, hudson, union, rock field and fairfield, that's 95, 98, 100. even at the coast with the winding more southwest to southerly, low 90s for real feels on long island and connecticut coast. tomorrow we still got those 90- degree temperatures and those real feels in the low to mid- 90s tomorrow. still have a moderate risk of rip currents at the beaches. waves 2 to 3 feet in the atlantic and winds out of the southwest. 93 today would tie the record nearly 100 years old. it's hot ahead of the front. thunderstorms will cool us down for the weekend. record heat today, 93. it's 1919 back when the record was set. tonight 75. clear, warm, humid. sunshine. another hot day, high 91. that will make for the third heat wave of the summer. third heat wave. 83 on thursday with the thunderstorms and then that sets us up for nice weather friday, saturday, sunday.

that killed a young woman. kala rama is live at the scene. >> reporter: police are asking for your help. we learned the woman killed is sade eversley of brooklyn. she just got on the back of the motorcycle and was killed moments later. let me show you what the parkway looked like moments after the crash. the 28-year-old motorcycle driver was heading westbound, lost control and hit a divider. eversley, on the back, was thrown to the pavement. while she was injured lying in the left lane, she was hit by what police describe as a white older model minivan. police say it did not stop and now they are trying to track down the driver. moments later a second minivan ran over the victim but stopped. so far no charges have been filed. loved ones of the victim rushed down to the parkway and looked on in disbelief. police believe there were traffic backups. someone may have seen something. so farther only describing this

rudy giuliani will testify in a congressional homeland security hearing held at the 9/11 museum and memorial in manhattan. police commissioner bratton will testify along with the fire commissioner and representative of the 9/11 pham rei association. they are assessing the country's readiness to confront the spread of terrorism. as we approach the 14 year mark since the september 11th attacks, the fdny will honor 21 members that died from illnesses related to their work at the world trade center. the names of those 21 firefighters were join the 89 others on the list of those who died on the world trade center memorial wall. the special dedication takes place this afternoon at 4:00 at the fdny headquarters in brooklyn. former new york city police commissioner ray kelly is back with a memoir called vigilance. he gives a detailed account of his life.
